Ike Clanton és un home poderós que té atemorits als habitants de Tombstone. Quan l'agent federal Wyatt Earp i el seu inseparable amic Doc Hollyday pistoler i jugador professional, arriben a la ciutat per imposar la llei, Clanton no dubta a comprar a un xèrif corrupte per acabar amb ells. Des del moment en què els pistolers de Clanton assassinen per l'esquena a un dels germans de Wyatt, l'única obsessió d'aquest serà venjar la seva mort i netejar de pistolers la ciutat.
