중학생인 아메는, 아버지 토모하루와 함께 단둘이 살고 있다. 그런 이유에서인지 때로는 아버지와 친구 같기도, 혹은 연인 같기도 한 사이이다. 토모하루는 본인의 일이면서도 동시에 취미인 나비 채집을 위해 집을 비우는 날이 많은데 아메는 그런 아버지의 빈자리가 더욱 크게 느껴진다. 어느 날, 환상의 나비라고 알려진 '알렉산더 호랑나비'를 잡기 위해 대만으로 간 토모하루는, 나비를 쫓아가다 그만 목숨을 잃고 만다. 그러나 혼자 남겨진 딸에 대한 강한 집념 때문인지 토모하루는 유령이 되어 딸 아메의 곁으로 다시 돌아온다. 본인이 죽었다는 사실조차 깨닫지 못하고 있던 토모하루는 같은 맨션의 이웃 아키코로부터 본인이 유령이라는 충격적인 사실을 전해 듣게 되는데...
