Mars and Beyond' is geregisseerd door de bekende animator Ward Kimball en is een luchtige verkenning van de geschiedenis en de toekomst van ruimtereizen zoals die in 1957 werden begrepen! Theorieën van wetenschappers en filosofen worden besproken. Gericht op Mars. Ideeën van sciencefictionauteurs H.G. Wells en Edgar Rice Burroughs worden tot leven gebracht met kleurrijke animaties. Pulp sciencefictionstrips uit die tijd worden geparodieerd. Er wordt stilgestaan bij het leven op andere planeten, waarbij elke planeet in het zonnestelsel wordt belicht vanuit het perspectief van wat er met de mens op die planeet zou gebeuren. Een meesterwerk van animatie en sciencefiction dat zijn tijd ver vooruit was. Ward Kimball was misschien wel de meest inventieve van alle Disney animatoren en waarschijnlijk de enige die toegaf te experimenteren met psychedelische drugs in de jaren 60. Ook de enige animator die Walt Disney ooit een “genie” noemde.
