De charmante Michael (John Corbett) is een getalenteerde maar onvolwassen acteur. Hij wil alleen in grote producties spelen en neemt nooit genoegen met bijrollen. Maar wanneer de directeur van zijn theaterbedrijf besluit de onervaren, talentloze Peter Rooker aan te nemen voor de hoofdrol in de nieuwe productie van "Cyrano", besluit Michael dat er voor hem niets anders op zit dan Peter te helpen. Peter ontdekt spoedig dat in de wereld van theater de normale regels van het leven niet van toepassing zijn. De driehoeksverhouding uit het stuk wordt realiteit wanneer Peter verliefd wordt op zijn mooie tegenspeelster Grace (Amy Smart), de vrouw aan wie Michael nooit heeft kunnen vertellen wat hij voor haar voelt. Nu is het Micheal's beurt om te leren, niet hoe te acteren maar hoe te leven!
